A few friends and i will be making our own FPS for the MLG community, After looking at a ton of maps made by the forge community, I am asking for permission to use some of the maps that have been posted here. Please let me know if it is alright. Thanks

What kind of maps will this game use? multi floor or like larger single/less floor? You could always design them in sketchup too.

I think someone is asking for someone to work for free, as a multiplayer designer. hum. not so intrested. Now if you said we are making a FPS and need MP designers for the team, then thats a different story. As some people know, I'm planning on opening a game devlopment studio in the near future. And I wouldn't expect anyone to work for me for free.

Doesn't Bungie own title on anything made in Forge? That's the impression I got from what little I read of the Hammer and Anvil agreement they make you okay.

You should contact the creators of the maps you are looking at, not assume that it's ok because someone thinks they speak for everyone...as all forums tend to hold. Do the right thing and give full credit, which I doubt some of you guys do anyway. That Salot remark was uncalled for FYI I fail to recognize your name.

Bungie owns foundry, but they don't hold rights for design of maps...

And the nice little person said the comment about me, here is my word to you...

I guess your right since my maps are not creative, I guess my maps have the most downloads then almost every map that comes in here ( Not saying there maps are bad just stating a point to the nice kid ) So your right i must not be creative...

Since this kid has so much wisdom he has made me finally realize that i suck at this and life..

I will go run and hide and finally try to cope with the irony of my life and how he showed me the truth in my life..

I can't imagine what maps you'd want to use anyway. You have an entire game engine before you and you're going to use designs constrained by foundry?

Don't use maps from forge forums, if you're really in need of maps PM me and I'll design 100 for you on sketchup that are free from the limitations of forge.

Its alright, forget it. I am not going to use any of the maps here. However, we may need some level designers who would get credit for their work however there is no pay. This is for us to get started and to make a game with competition in mind. So far there are only 5 people working on this who are all people I know in person. If anyone wants In PM me. I cannot assure you that we will need some of you because we only want a small number of people to work on this.

Not sure it works that way. Good luck with your IP though, sounds interesting.

Wow. People are pretty greedy... you're not going to get paid for your maps anyway. I mean, he could have just not asked because there are no copyright laws involved, but he did. And you guys said no. Wow.

You're right, we do not get paid. You're right he did ask. Why would he want to use maps, when in complete govern over quality control and originality, with such high restraints and conditions to design in forge when there is an entirely different engine to paint concept in? I agree with Nasty. And for the people who actually spend months on Forge and do their own thing and come out with good emergent behavior of Halo 3 maps, there is a reason why some people are hesitant and say no. Greedy shouldn't come to mind obviously. Since their is no return or reward.

Anyone who wants to make a successful career in the video game business I wish good luck too, as I too am interested in such things. It's cool with people you know personally as that's how some studios grow network, asking of developers of high degree with no pay I do not understand is all I said. I wish I could show you a link to help your team out more and be helpful, unfortunately I'm on the same research page.

maybe you should put together a budget and biz plan-- most co. have a core team that developes the title and then during production, begains to hire out work i.e. programing.

As for forge, and no one making money off their maps. -

Here is the problem that you will run into. bungie owns rights to forge and pretty much anything created in it. Now if you are going to take a map that was made in forge, and use it in another game without promision from MS then you have problems. B/c now you are using an IP (a map) design that should be free to make money. Unless the game is going to be free to everyone, then you don't have the same issues.

What I think you shold do--
SMS people whos maps you like, talk to them about the type of game that your making, etc.. I assume that your MM maps are going to look a little better then forge, and you plan on giving you designers access to more tools. And work out terms with them, either you pay them for each map design, or give then a cut of profites. Or you work with NASTY who seems to willing to do it for free.
