View Full Version : Guardian 1v1 Competitive Version?

Hi, does anyone have a balanced and competitive version of Guardian specifically for 1v1s. I have tried searching for this but have had no success. If anyone has something I can download from their fileshare that would be great.

Also what settings would you recommend, specifically motion sensor on or off I can't decide which would be better.

I've tried everything I can, the map is too big for 1v1 and it is too easy to camp sniper tower the whole game even if you spawn with a sniper in hand and put friggin rocket launchers on the map.

Ha Ha lol. What do you think is the closest to fair then? Spawn at elbow and bottom blue with snipe at s3 and no overshield but perhaps camo to balance sniper with motion sensor on or no camo with motion sensor off making it much harder to stay in one positon and snipe?

Do you have/know of any good foundry maps for 1v1?

The MLG item layout certainly breaks the map even more for 1v1 as it slaps the sniper in the strongest position in the map as far as 1v1 is concerned. s3 is flat out unbreakable 1v1, even my little brother who can't break level 45 in MM and goes -7 every game he plays can own me in guardian 1v1 if he camps there.

There is absolutely no way to balance the map, scrubs in MM who challenge you to grudge matches think they own on it because it's just so damn imbalanced. I have tried and I have failed, no matter how much stuff I put outside of s3 the end result is that the player will leave momentarily to grab it and then bring it right back there.

Consult the sticky thread for a list of quality 1v1 maps, Archetype is the best on the list imo.

The only thing with forge maps is that in a grudge match people will complain that your playing your own map and they don't know it. Guess you can't win either way.

Should be great for general practice though and thats my primary intention. Thanks.

I played a game the other day and the snipe spawned in the middle and the initial spawns were elbow and blue2. That worked out pretty well and mixed up the initial play. I would suggest keeping invis in at G2 but moving it further away from its initial spawn so further up the pathway to make it a more vulnerable; but thats up to you.

Do what I did once. I was messing around with guardian and I blocked off Elbow at Snipe2 and Tree from bottom mid. Also the jump from top mid to tree/elbow. Make sure to take the spawns out, it really does make the map that much smaller. Also try putting a grav lift at bottom blue to top gold shortcut that launches you top mid.

I created a 1v1 guardian that I feel is pretty balanced. Basically it is stripped of all weapons and powerups, I placed the sniper top mid with only one clip on backup, and then i made it spawn every two minutes, so both players will have a good chance of getting a hold of it during the game, and less ammo in it, so that no one can just camp s3 with it forever. Then i basically put br's and carbines near by most spawning points. I generally play without radar, so that breaking s3 will be easier.

i think guardian with mlg settings, with radar is fine. Yeah usually people camp s3, but if ur good then get them out of it.

What about a custom powerup with 1 less shield level instead of an active camo..

I thought I was the only that felt that way about S3 and 1v1's on Guardian. The spot is the worst in sniper starts because it is difficult to snipe a decent player out of S3. I hate getting challenged to 1v1's after I destroy someone only to lose because of the player camping S3 with sniper or mauler. Because you not having teammates to help flank the sniper, means they can easily kill you when you spawn elbow/green, blue, or gold. The worst is when you play a BK that gets a body shot when you try to move anywhere near snipe tower then switches to BR for the cleanup. He then proceed to talking trash, and I tell him to go top mid for a BR battle only for him to get embarrassed and proceed to back it up by saying scoreboard.

Guardian 1v1 is garbage. I suggest using Archetype or Greenhouse for 1v1's since those maps are faster paced and you cant camp the whole game on them.

Yeah there is a couple of good foundry 1v1 maps.... but here is one that is meant for 4v4's but can easily be turned into a 1v1 map...

Well, I did make a more competitive and balanced Guardian FFA with spawns suited for FFA and some much needed changes, I runs perfectly for 1v1's also, heres what I did.

-Removed camo and replaced with sniper.

-Replaced S3 with a mauler.

-Added carbines on blue entrance, blue ramp, bottom glass, elbow, and top green.

-Added plasmas to S1, S2, and S3 to break up set-ups easily.

-Added more starting points and random spawns to certain areas on map.

-Put everything on necessary MLG respawns, sniper on drop spawn, grenades on 30 seconds, etc etc.


Everything runs very smoothly with the power weapon switch and I've playtested thoroughly. Try it out if you like.

I put Camo bottom mid (mauler spawn)
Spawn time: 2:30

2 snipers one at S3 and one at origianl camo spawn both with 4 bullets ea.
Spawn time: 2:00

I put 2 plasmas on top gold and on S2

And thats bassically it.
