View Full Version : Snowbound...Mlg Material?

Now i know this has probably been suggested before, and i will probably be flamed, but i think that snowbound could easily become mlg material. It could be somewhat of a beaver creak from halo 2.I mean if you can find out a way to get rid of the shield doors, and if you put a teleporter in the back of each base, and then block off that bottom room/pit thing and maybe block off like the backs.
State your opinions and PLEASE NO FLAMING!

The shield doors are impossible to remove, making this map a no-go for MLG.

Id give it a chance if you blocked off the tunnels or whatever. But i still dont like the snow, it makes for terrible grenading.

If you took the shield doors out of snowbound and epitaph they'd be good maps.

If Snowbound had 380% less Snowbound it would be an excellent MLG map.

Somebody already made a MLG version of Snowbound and managed to permanently get rid of the shield doors. If I remember it was an allright map, but had terrible frame rate issues that made it nearly unplayable. Anyway snow is just horrible for throwing grenades.

I don't agree with you on this one. Personally I think Snowbound is probably the worst competitive map on Halo 3 because of the shield doors and the way the entire map is set up. Even adding teleports to the bases would still make this map unplayable in my opinion. It's such a campy map, and there is no way to remove the shields unfortunately. Also the bases are all clustered and it could mess with grenades and gun fights.

I once made a map in which the entrances to inside the bases, and also the entrances to underground, were blocked off. There was no way to reach the shield doors so they were not in use. It actually worked pretty well as a CTF map. It was only the space above ground. The version I made didn't have a proper weapon or spawn set though. I might go in and change it up a bit and see how it plays.
By the way, the only way to remove the shield doors is actually to go into the map and throw trip mines for a minute or two, so it is impossible to remove the shield doors for playtime. The only option is pretty much to just block them off.

A while back I played both of the non-shield door versions of snowbound and epitaph. Epitaph is almost just as bad simply because of how the wide open center isolates everyone to the outsides.
Snowbound was indeed tolerable, but it seemed way too easy to br the entire other team because of how open the top really is. Most importantly though, I don't see any map with snow being an mlg map, it simply takes most of the dynamic of grenades out of the picture.

TBH no one even tried using them that much when I played the no shield door map. I think they put a snipe in the bottom center and there was a decent fight on the side door that leads down to it, but after that it quickly turned into a Guardian-like standoff except there were no lifts and twice the distance between each teams.

Not true, there was a map that had the shield doors off.

I have a version on Snowbound in my Fileshare with the shield doors perminatly gone, the spawns need to be fixed, who ever made it made teams spawn to their one side only.
Try it out, GT: O66 SCANLAN

Okay well i'm having a crack at it, because to be honest, I have nothing better to do
All the underground parts including the inside of the bases are blocked off. OS spawns just outside where the Beam Rifle spawns in the MM version. Mauler spawns where the ghost would spawn.
Frag grenades work like less powerful Stickies on the snow, and they can still be placed efficiently without bouncing on the snow, so I really dont see grenades as an issue. I always thought snowbound was okay once the underground is blocked off. By the way, I fully understand this map will go nowhere, i'm just bored.

This guy's version is way better, find it here (http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?h3fileid=29046583). Only thing is the starting spawns should be changed, and also where the flag spawns should be placed on to of the flag cap point. The only bit of lag is for two seconds at the start of the match, and then none.

Removing shields doors is really old. KC has already tested Snowbound and deemed it horrible for competitive gaming. The main paths of the map are small tunnels that go underground and up top, there is basically no cover. It'd be way to easy to just spawn trap the opponent in their base in CTF and for TS, teams would camp in a room together and smack anyone who walks through the doorways.
Epitaph is even more of a joke. The middle areas with the ramps on the side of rockets aren't that bad, but aside from the middle area, everything else is just a maze of hallways and doorways. It'd be impossible to teamshot unless you were right next to your teammates.

I'm actually trying this.... I'm treating it like Beaver Creek. Teleporters by the bases, Rocket, Snipe, Mauler, and OS... I'm trying to get a rough version done, so it can be tried out. Only problem I saw when forging is that there is no where to put the Teleporters near the bases that doesn't make the teams able to meet up in about 10 seconds.
Also... Spawning is always a problem.

When you think about it, Snowbound is a lot like Beaver Creek. And even on Beaver Creek grenades don't bounce off of the ground very well.

Anyone that even begins to compare Snowbound and Beaver Creek as similar maps has no business discussing competitive Halo.

Snowbound is the worst map in Halo 3 for team games at least. And comparing it to beaver creek is just.......well, its just not really smart
