I am finally getting a 360 (had a really good deal on one, $200 for a 2 week old system with a 3 month, battery charger and packs, with 5 games), and I want to know what I would do in the unfortunate event of a ring of death. I don't have a receipt for it, but it comes with the box and all papers.

Any help would be nice, thanks.

I think you just have to give them the serial number when you call, that is if something were to go wrong. Whenever the 360 was purchased, the SN was scanned and the warranty started. The SN can be found in two spots:
1) On the back by the Ethernet port
2) Inside the little door that covers the two USB ports on the front

Thanks, I didn't even plan on getting one, but it is in perfect condition and was only 200 :P.

You can also find the serial number (assuming you can turn it on) in the System menu of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.

Your Xbox 360 is under warranty for one year from the date you purchased it from a retailer (not from someone else).

However, if you experience a general hardware failure (and get the 3 red rings of death), your Xbox 360 is under warranty for three years after the date that you purchased it from a retailer.

If you go to https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx and register your Xbox 360 using the serial number, the web site will automatically tell you how long your warranty lasts. This is the regular warranty — your red ring of death warranty is two years beyond this date. See the Xbox 360 policy change at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/warrantyfaq.htm (news release at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/warrantyupdate.htm).
