View Full Version : My First *MLG* Map: Rapids v1.1

Hey guys, well I just finished this map called Rapids, I am kind of new to forge but i did a great learning alot. I did a little tweaking this morning so it was changed to v1.1.
----It is a 2 Base set up with 2 towers to the sides. Each base has an exit going up to the A and B towers. ( think of the arch from Beaver Creak ). There are 3 levels to the map, Bottom A or B, Middle A or B and Top A or B. And the bottom middle has a sense of a bottom middle from Warlock.

Weapons:
4 Battle Rifles: 2 in each base and 2 at each corner opposite of the stairs leading into Middle A and B
2 Carbines: One on top of each tower
4 Plasmas: 2 in each middle A and B
2 Frags: One on each side of bottom middle
1 Mauler: Center of bottom middle

Changes from v1 to v1.1-

-Fused The bases better than before.
- Added A dumpster near A and B corner
-Added fence walls under the bridges leading to top middle.

Geometry-

The map is not very complicated, Each base has a Semi- Curved ramp going to Top A and B
Most of the What the towers are connected to are opposite of each other.
A bridge leading from the bases to Middle A or B
Plenty of cover
Tweaked the Camo and Overshield placement on the Bases
The Map is an CTF and TS Map There is just one map.

Well I hope you guys will like this map, please leave Ratings and please leave constructive criticism. Let me know if you guys like the map. I think its a very decent map and plenty of my friend's love this map. I put quite a bit into this map, but any way here is the link to the map:

yeah it does need cleaning, as its only v1.1 but im glad u think its good, the pictures your looking at are from v1

Yeah I really like that middle structure, very open, a lot of cover but not too much cover.

Edit - It looks like im stalking you but i swear to gawd i just woke up.

I think the middle area should be built higher, to stop people from shooting cross-map, and maybe give people more cover on the second floor, i hate having to hide behind small pieces of scenery. That's just my opinion though.


I really like the flow of the map but I think this map could be a lot better if you work on it, otherwise i wouldnt have even commented. nice work.

That could improve angles in game and prevent spawn camping. Great idea man, but I don't know if he has the budget. From the looks of it, he used every single dollar.

ONE MAJOR ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!!!

Your objects are not spawning at the beginning of the level. You need to go back into the level and set "place at start" to "yes"

I noticed a few objects not even spawning. please change this.

On a positive not, your map is pretty sick. The elevations so both sides have equal control really shows a lot of thought. Great job!

again, to save a lot of money, use fence boxes to block off the portion of the map. Also I am able to leave the maps boundaries.

Weapon Holders - Are a great way to keep things in place. The barriers at the top of A and B side can disrupt gameplay if you dont have them shoved into place.

Top middle - needs to be cleaned up. Im sure its already a b*tch to get it the way it is but its still not good enough for competitive play IMO.

I can trip over the stairs in back of red and blue base.

Played this map with you the other day.

Great map in not one of the best.

The spawns need to be helped out a little and some cleaning up here and there.

Other then that this map is great.

well...to me...its better than ampliflied...anything is.....im glad i helped lol because once this map gets the right tweakness its going to be awesome......

Amplified is an awesome map. A lot of "Joe" players don't like it because you cant play solo. You HAVE to COMMUNICATE! Same with all other maps but since this map has no power weapons or power spots, its hard to maintain control. Rapids IMO, will have the feeling of beaver creek to it. Get to the towers and you have a power spot. I exclude top gold and purple from AMP because its easy to kill players in those spots. The towers will be a little harder. This map could possibly make it on the circuit IF its cleaned up. My previous post will explain what needs cleaning.

This is a really nice way to geo glitch the stairs better and make it so you dont trip.

Also don't let my ranting overwhelm you. I noticed a lot of tiny things. You should probably worry about those when you have the fence boxes and middle fixed up.

your Ranting doesnt bother me, i kno that I STILL HAVE WORK to do on the map but now its just other peoples opinions that will make this map BETTER, as youve told me i am fixing alot of the fusing and placements and all that

yo octain, i like the design of your map, I think it play out well but you need to work on your morphing, its sloppy as hell. i give it a 5/5 for a v1

so im am still working on tweaks and all that but i will be done in an hour or so, so download the new map when i am done

EDIT: Underlined words are things that I have changed or fixed:

UPDATE:

Changes and Fixes:
- I Fused the bases and other objects Better.
- I Changed the height of the Top Middle walls.
- I Fixed the Boundary Walls so that you cannot get out.
- I Detailed on Things being parallel, straight and even.
- I Added More spawn Points.
- I Made EVERY object " PLACE AT START" to YES
- Evened out the Spawn Points
- Added a small cover at Middle A and B ( window panel )
- Added 2 Dumpsters at the edges of the stairs going to Middle A and B
- Placed Weapons Better.
- I Fixed the Fence Walls to more even in Middle A and B


Well those are all the fixes and changes that I can think of right now, but if there are and more problems let me know.

I liked the v1 settings but since you've cleaned it up, I think it's amazing. Hopefully slayer and CTF both play well on it. Great Map!
