I never see fence walls in MLG style maps, so I'm not sure if they're legal or not, any help?

Well I've heard that they are pretty inconsistent, especially over Xbox live so I reckon you should never use Fence walls or Fence boxes unless you are using it as a boundary of the map or if you can find a way to not shoot them that would also be pretty cool.

The problem with fence walls is you can only occasionally shoot through them. 99% of the time bullets don't get through for whatever reason.

idk, im pretty sure if you lay 1 fence wall down and then merge another in the same place exept upsdie down it will fix the transparent bullet problem.

The inconsistency in shooting through fence walls isn't as important as the fact that you can see through them. If you do prevent people from shooting through them, then you still face the fact that it promotes radar-like gameplay: situations where you know where your opponent is, but cannot fire at them. Furthermore, this promotes camping as opposed to being strategic; why try to out-maneuver your opponents when you can just stay behind a wall and know when they are coming through? Of course there are ways around these situations, either by nading or coming from two sides, but most of the time it is just annoying and only dumbs down gameplay by not requiring players to ANTICIPATE their opponents but instead, simply REACT. Anyone can react, only pros can anticipate.

But in certain situations it works incredibly well. Two examples would be guardian and Lockout. It all just depends on how you use them.

Interlock a shield door with the fence wall and it's fine.

I don't remember anyone ever looking through glass on Lockout. You could barely see anything from the bottom and you were way too exposed if you tried to look through from the top.. As far as Guardian is concerned, I hate the fact that you can see through the floor at Gold. Like I said, it creates stupid standoffs where players don't have to think. You can watch where they go and many times the player on the bottom will not realize someone on the top saw them. I've been hoping MLG would cover the bottom with ports so you couldn't see through them, but I've long lost hope for any detailed changes to MLG maps.

carbine 2 on midship had shield doors so you could crouch there with the ball, as in many vids and not get shot yet be able to see through them. Even though you were open to the carbine side of each base, you were protected from nearly 80% of the map. Oh, and on lockout, countless times i would see pros looking to check S2 and you could see part of S3. And on guardian, from S3 you look at blue enrance and see the glass door, where you can clearly see each other yet you can't be shot. So there are 3 examples which have had an effect on MLG gameplay.

You can see and shoot(apparently not 100%) through the fence wall, just not move through it. So it isn't as if the person is simply standing there looking through to watch where his enemy comes like a shield door. Since you are only prevented from actually moving through a fence wall, you either come from 2 sides, nade, or shoot at him through the chainlink fence.
My own personal testing gave me a reason not to use fence boxes though, you cannot shoot into the box through the metal X on the side, but you CAN shoot through the metal from the inside part of the box. Stairs too, you cannot shoot down through the solid metal steps, but anyone below the stairs can shoot straight up through the chainlink bottom, and through the solid metal steps. It was unbalanced gameplay so I changed those sections of the map I am working on.

Actually, a guass warthog can shoot through the metal part of the stairs. Technically a fence wall with a shield door is perfecly fine but you have to use it correctly. Look at construct, you can easily see people in that middle room but it works well. Also, a sniper will always shoot through a fence wall but you have to shoot through a hole and a guass warthog will shoot through a fence wall.
All in all, put a shield door in it and make sure it is used properly and your good to go.
