View Full Version : Renegade - a foundry Sketchup like none other

You might've heard of a map called Defiled, a 2-base symmetrical Foundry map of my design. While the abundant amount of 2-base symms are great for CTF, I wanted to make something different than all the other Foundry maps out there. I wanted to make a Foundry map for TS, KOTH, and Ball. I thought and thought and thought, and I finally, I was able to come up with a solid no-base symmetrical map. I present to you - Renegade.

Overview:

Essentially, the map is shaped like a dome, with a curved top and flat bottom. On the flat side, you have corner structures that include a ramp to midmap and access to a walkway leading to the curved top of the map. Midmap gives whoever holds it a view of the entire map. On the curved side, a structure similar to Defiled's tower gives the holder control of most of the curved portion of the map. The lack of a wall is due to the fact that the wall will be constructed mainly of fence boxes and fence walls.

Corner structures:

The corner structures are the closest thing to a base on Renegade. These structures aren't a power position as much as a crossroads. There are routes from this area to virtually every other position on the map. A ramp leads to midmap. A catwalk on the foundry base side of midmap leads to the other corner structure. A walkway of double boxes connects the corner and the tower structure. You can also drop down from the corner structure to reach bottom mid.

Tower structure:

The design of this tower is based on that of Defiled's tower. Controlling this portion of the map allows you to keep midmap and the curved area of the map in check. Possible site of a power weapon.

Midmap:

Midmap is a very powerful area on this map, as it is the highest point on the map, giving a view of the entire map. A lack of cover on the top catwalks helps balance the power of this position. This is expected to be a very heavily contested area.

Forging issues:
Even at this early planning stage, a lot of future problems can be seen. First and foremost, this map will most likely run out of budget, making a budget glitch neccessary. Second, this map will be insanely hard to forge, with all the wierd angles and whatnot. This might be one of those maps that drives the maker crazy halfway through the construction.

Please feel free to post any questions and comments.

Looks well thoughtout but i know many forgers would like to forge a budget glicth map cause of all of the problems that could happen. Anyways nice design and i really think you should try and work withthis a little bit to get it within budget.

Looks sweet. I hope someone can make it.

I'm hoping do a joint forging with someone, possibly PulseKiller (I love what he did with Defiled), because I dislike forging alone. I find solo forging extremely boring.

When do you get your box back?

Whenever MS sends me a replacement. Hopefully within the next week or two.

You enjoy making very challenging forging maps dont you....?

Anyways... I would love to forge it with you. Now the only problem is that you dont have an Xbox...

Hehe, yes, I love challenging forge maps. Anyway, I'm hoping to get my box back within the next week.

Yes I did and I thought I responded, but I guess not.

I can help you out probably tomorrow if you can get on. I live in Est (GMT -5) timezone, so just PM me with whatever time you can get on.

This is a very interesting and untapped area of map design that you got going here. It has a ton of potential in my book.

After looking at it carefully, I had an idea that the map could possibly be suited to feature both power-ups and no real power weapons. Having both on the map could cause some problems if they aren't placed correctly.

At the least, I could see one power-up working on this map. I could see the OS location somewhere at tower if there was some minor geometry change there. The Camo could possibly be located in the area below mid-map. If you used both OS and Camo on the map, you'd then run into of the dilemma of having both items located quite close to each other (previously stated above). I definitely can see one power-up working on this map as an item to control and possibly a second power-up if balanced and positioned properly. It'd make for unique gameplay to say the least.

Just keep in mind that all of this is just potential ideas and theories, and is meant to start a friendly discussion as far as what weapons/power-ups could be used and where they'd be located.

Just wanted to share and contribute my 2 cents. :)
