View Full Version : Would you guys play/give a chance to a Derelict remake?

I'm obviously new to Forging, having only completed a few half-maps before getting frustrated with my sloppy Forging skills or realizing I hadn't planned properly and wouldn't have enough space/materials to finish. So far my attempts at a map I designed completely from scratch have failed miserably, and someone on these forums posted wondering about a Derelict styled map.

Derelict was one of my favorite Halo 1 maps to play 2v2 with my buddies on, and I'd largely forgotten about it once most of my Halo 1 LAN friends moved off to college and I was stuck 1v1ing my brother on the only map simple enough for him, Wizard. From my memory, as well as a quick little run through and search of some overhead shots on the internet, I decided it would be a relatively simple Forge job for someone new to Forging like me, with few challenging geos (it could probably be made with none, but that would be a mess) and a pretty simple layout.

I've already started working on some concepts and planning what exactly I'm going to do, but I didn't want to end up putting a good week or two into it and then end up discovering that it had already been tried and had failed miserably as a Halo 3 remake.

I'm positive there have been other Derelict remakes from Forge Hub or somewhere similar, but I'm going to try this one myself, if for nothing more than kicks. What I want to know is how high I should prioritize this as far as completing it goes, and that's up to you guys. If you're all into the idea, I'd be happy to put Forging this ahead of my daily customs/MM play time, but if you're not so keen on it, I'll just put it off for late nights when my East Coast custom friends are all asleep, and I can't scrounge up a solid party of 4 for MM, let alone 8.

Like I said, I'm already going to make it, I just want to know how fast I should plan on getting it done. Thanks for the input though!

I wouldn't put it ahead of any of your other stuff you've got going on. I've played on a few derelict inspired remakes and it's just not the same. Foundry is too small for a derelict remake in my opinion. If you want to use the whole rectangular space you're going to have an ovular map rather than circular plus everything will just be smaller than it used to be which in my experience leads to a very cramped map. If you really wanna do it though I would suggest working on it in your spare time.

Dont set a release date on it.Take your time you dont want it to be rushed. It will get done whenever it gets done you dont want it to get around release time and the map isnt really finished yet and you try and rush to release it and it doesnt turn out good.I have seen many ppl try and rush maps out that looks bad and thrown together cause they didnt take enough time on it.

I think it would actually be pretty simple except for geoin the concave? shape into the map because you could just make foundry a perfect square with blockoffs and the walkways and mid would be pretty easy, mabye try making a small version first and then try going larger. and small as in really really small.

foundry is too small, I would play mm and customs untill sandbox comes out, then make it =)

Well, I've looked into it, and I could make the same octagon shape in Foundry fairly comfortably with each wall being two double boxes long, and still include the outer rooms. I don't have complete plans in Sketchup yet (working on those tonight), but I'm pretty sure a vaguely similar size could be achieved. As I'm typing this I'm actually starting to doubt it a bit, but the BR would be terribly ineffective on an actual-size remake anyways. . .

Either we this is a coincidence or you stole my brain. lol. I have thought about this and tried forging it myself(didn't finish, but was going well). I made each wall 2 1/2 double boxes long though. I have this map all planed out on paper right now. I may make a sketchup if I learn how to use it. But I won't be able to make this map or any of mines till I Christmas. So good luck. Hope it turns out good.

Well, if you do decide to make it and would like some help making it, feel free to send me a FR.

I think 2 is enough of a squeeze for now. Planning on finishing the Sketchup tonight, since I'm out of town this weekend and hope to be testing on my day off from school on Monday next week.

The octagon will fit as you said but like I said earlier i've played on maps like this and the "bases" are just way too cramped. It becomes a close range fight all the time and we all know how well those go in Halo 3. It's just that if anything happens in the bases it is usually a simul kill which I think takes away from the map. Like someone else said wait for sandbox.

Derelict is my second most wanted map(Dammy first) So if you could pull it off I would download it for sure..Derelict reloaded was alright, just sloppy/Third level.

The bases in mine are going to be a bit more than a single box in width. I was originally having them be a double box wide, but it wouldn't fit in Foundry without that big ****ing wall that separates the wings getting in the way.

There's no way I'm going to be done with this by Monday, I'll be happy to have a finalized Sketchup by Friday, so there won't be any testing until next weekend (not this coming one). I'm going to make two versions of the Sketchup, one that squeezes into Foundry with minimal cutoffs from the geometry, and one slightly bigger version that'll have the aforementioned wall protruding from one side (so of course the second one won't be an exact remake).

Okay, I finally managed to eke as much space as I could out of Foundry without sacrificing symmetry. Finished Sketchup should be done by tomorrow night.

I had the same idea to remake Direlict back in August. Never went through with it, i'm interested in seeing how it plays for Halo 3 though.
