I recently had a breakthrough on how 1v1's should be played, the problem with the current competitive 1v1 maps and way that they are played. People are trying to make the perfect 1v1 map, well, it's not possible. There is no one way to test all the individual skills Halo provides with one map, just like there is no way to test a teams worth on a single map thats why they have 11 Gametypes on the circuit. There needs to be a series of maps that as a whole test the individual skill needed to perform well in every situation, and in regard to this it is determining the way I will continue to build Knockout, to provide the one aspect that I see missing in every other 1v1 map, the element to counter your opponents every move.
I thought I would post this for anyone else looking to build a competitive 1v1 map, and my inspiration to post the following post in the GB 1v1 thread:
Archetype - Focus on individual BR skill and Flow.
Greenhouse - Map positioning, Power-Up timing, Part 1 of 2 Sniper Skill.
Knockout - 2 of 2 Sniper Skill, Ability to counter opponents every move.
With these three maps and playing all three twice on reciprical hosts(Each player hosts each map once) is the best way to determine individual skill, with a 4th map being needed to designed as a tie breaker incase the series is tied, or tally all points and the winner is the person with the most points. Either way each series would take to long for MLG to make it a competitivly viable tournament option, but that is baisically all we got for now.
Each map does provide other skils needed to win but I'm to lazy to type it all. This is honestly the best we got for now.
