View Full Version : Interlocked objects moving on their own?

Hi. I am currently experiencing a problem that is making my map nearly impossible to progress on. I am blocking off the back area of foundry with fence boxes and double boxes (because of a shortage of double walls).

Here is a Sketchup illustration to demonstrate what I am trying to accomplish:

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z168/iMpl0d3/wall.jpg

I can do it perfectly, I will have everything pixel perfect on my screen (yes it is perfectly rested), but after I save and come back, the outcome is almost exactly like this (not even exaggerating):

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z168/iMpl0d3/wall2.jpg

There is absolutely nothing I can do about it from what I can tell. I am in a local party, not connected to XBL, I am restarting round after I place every object, and then save immediately. The fence boxes are perfectly flat on top (which shouldn't even matter, as I'm not even placing the boxes on top of them, they are slightly intertwined down into the fence boxes about half a foot).

I've noticed this on other objects in my maps too, sometimes I will have them perfectly placed, save and come back, and they are off by a significant amount. So it's not just these double boxes or anything like that. For some reason, Salot/Nexn must have not had this problem with Onslaught, because every object there is almost pixel perfect, just like how I have my objects before they mess up.

If anybody knows a solution, or has also had this problem and wants to find a solution, post here.

There is nothing you can do to stop it, it does that when you have double boxes like that.I tried doing a wall like that before and you can't fix it, it's just forge being a *****.
I'ts pretty much just double boxes that tend to do that, try using something else.

EDIT: listen to Zanno

all objects do this

there's a really annoying forge glitch in which you can't spawn an object 90 degrees from the angle that it comes out when you first spawn it. the precision it saves objects with is different than it actually can appear in forge mode, so all objects will round slightly unless you leave it at the exact angle you spawn it in. the savequit glitch tends to get it closer to where you actually wanted it.

in your specific situation, if you tip all these boxes on their side the tilt will be like this // looking at it forward, so you can get a smooth wall tipping them that way. in general i try to avoid putting boxes lined up toward the base and back wall unless i can't.

the other thing you can do is make it smooth along the tilt, and then flip the other side of the boxes so the side touching the floor is the top side of it. then you'll have a subtle triangle basically. or you could just make your life easy and have the metal side of the box facing up, then you won't have this problem

I'm going to try the save-quit glitch like you said. Technically I should just be able to put the object where I want it, hold it (while it's surrounded by objects to keep it exactly where I want), and save and quit, right?

If that doesn't work, I'll just have to have the metal facing up like you said, that won't be too much of a compromise.

Thank you, +rep :-)

edit: metal side facing up does the trick. thanks zanno

you seriously may be one of the most intelligent people i have ever conversed with. you know more about halo and forge, and competitive gaming in general than anyone i know of. Zanno for president 012!

I have the same problem and because i have the worst OCD forge ever it's nearly impossible for me to leave it. I looked and read through Zanno's post but i can't understand it. If anybody could explain it for simple please do =]

you been hitting the bong bro?

when you spawn a double box, it spawns facing metal side up. In this, same as when you did your boxes, it was on it's side, or upside down. Because of this, it doesn't save right. It doesn't save how it appears in forge, so it will move a tiny bit no matter what, usually not enough for you to notice however.

You can fix this by a. saving and quiting if you continue saving it on its side, or b. metal side up.

No, we got the same problem. I don't know what it is, but it does it all the time.
I mean just today I had the most amazingly perfect geos you could ever see for Division and yeah, I quit and come back and its ****.. the only way I get around it is to just do the geo again and again untill it stops being a *****, sometimes that isn't an option though (see Flux's 'street' double boxes..)

You aren't the only one with the problem.

Gremlins.

Gremlins get into foundry from down the tunnel behind the wire fence in the hallway behind the wings. They come out after you save and quit to move your stuff around.

The only way to overcome them is to repeat the geos/interlocks until the gremlins get tired and give up.

(humour aside: Save and quit after each individual interlock, rather than after interlocking the whole line of boxes. I save and quit after placing almost every object, to make sure that the object is where it should be.)

this is true.

I actually don't savequit that often anymore, I savequit the initial box of a platform and then any boxes I build aligned with that surface will automatically round to the same angle. No amount of savequit will fix the original problem at the top of the thread, this is something I expected them to fix in AU2 but alas

yup, the forge gremlins got me pretty good today. 2 bridges, fence wall and a double box misteriously vanished on me today after being in place for weeks now. I gotta go back and re-do the fence wall and bridges still which luckily weren't geo'd like the double box was. ****'n gremlins............

with the save and quit glitch you have to make sure that with every piece that you do it with do not use the right trigger shortcut to quit the game you have to scroll down with the analog stick and then the difference in the placement will almost be nothing. trust me it works

the gremlins got me too, i had these 2 beastly double box geos both into the indented door things in foundry that mysteriously vanished. i just placed a few more objects and continued work on my map (i saved and quit some along the way) and then magically they came back! i have no idea how it happened but maybe thats the key to restealing your stuff from the gremlins, all you have to do is continue your map and save and quit!

Please teach me the ways of obtaining 1000 fusion coils, Master Zanno. I wish to have my entire map on fire for eternity.
