View Full Version : Colossus-unique symmetrical sketchup

Alright this is my progress of my map and please read the a brief description-
The map is labeled as you can see with bad penmanship, A B Blue and Red. And B base looks really overpowered, this was my goal. I want this map to be a strong CTF map but im trying oddball and 1-bomb mlg too. It's sort of a new style; the oddball and bomb start off at top B and right now the map is really balanced gameplay-wise as long as i don't screw the sides (blue/red). So i need suggestions and opinions of map so far, right now Cyph3r is helping on a design for the sides. It's probably going to be a room based at the sides.
Here are the weapons i have planned out:
6 brs
1 carbine
2 pairs of plasmas
3 pairs of frags
custom powerup (OS)
rockets with one clip
OS is under B to regain control, and rockets are at top A to cross the bridge and also, regain control. This map is all about teamwork and it's going to be fast paced.

Looks amazing. For the sides, I think something like a long walkway in the corner that is connected to A side between the wall(the object, not the map) and the bridge. Take a look here (http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207904) for some ideas if you'd like.

ight B side looks nice something new is always appealing.
A side on the otherhand looks a little plain, the only really interesting thing i see really is the back wall and how it frames the stairs which i must add have very little walking space. Build off B side because right now it looks like it's strongest point. Anyways looking forward to see creative bases from you. Why didn't you ever post your FFA MAP?
Also hopefully you don't make 2 standard bases i want more=]

I have a couple ideas in my head, but let me get the specfics. Do you want it to play primarily for ball and slayer? Do you want it asymetric or symetric? If sym, im going to try to focus more on sides as opposed to bases. When I get a basic idea of what u want, ill whip something up then send u the link for u to check out

At first looks I really like the side that uses the foundry middle wall to split the sides with the stairs, and that you have corner walls geomerged for LOS from side to side. Although the Sketchup doesn't show it - the corner walls geomerged will still stick out the sides of the foundry geometry and you will need side walls to connect the corner walls to back wall to make it look complete. And from experience that's one of the toughest geomerging with the corner walls because of the foundry fences and such, but have at it lol.

Also looking at the B side I think it would be better to move it toward the A side more. I see you have multiple routes going in and through B side which is very good. I believe that the end part with the two bridges connection to A should really take over the center and have the underneath of bridges be narrower. This way you can make the rest of the map with better symmetry. And I also thought of something else - make the 3 ramps on B side all made out of double walls with a more gradual incline if you decide to go with my suggestion about the middle area.

For starters I like what I see here. Make sure to update the whole map Sketchup when finished, I'm looking forward to it. And also I have updated the forge components thanks to Deathstars for more complete map designing. Keep it up Beast.

It looks like some good unique stuff, looking forward to seeing it.

Naming it after the worst map Halo 2 had to offer brings it down a tad :(

@Fritzster- thanks a bunch for the tips and i will definitely consider it coming from you. im messing around on sketchup now and if I do what you say i just got to figure out some other stuff to suit the changes, so i dont know but im not ignoring your feedback
@Cyph3r- i was aiming for a powerful CTF map and For oddball/mlg 1-bomb (yeah im gonna try it) B side is really powerful on purpose so the oddball/bomb spawn at top B. its an idea, well see if it works. As for symm or asymm i want it to be a symm, like you said with room-based sides designed great for gametypes other than slayer( oddball,bomb mostly). Thanks again, i really want to take this map serious and i hope it turns out nice :)

and iHyp3- Colossus was h2 map? was this DLC because i didn't get h2 DLC. ill see if i need to change it or not, thank you

Am i allowed to mess with B/A as long as i keep the core structure intact?

Looks like a good start. One thing you definitely need to keep in mind though, is not to have B side overpowered. You say you want it to be, but I'm telling you, you want something that will be powerful in a TEAM environment, but can be taken down easily if your teammates are killed. just remember that :)

great originality though, I like it. if the bases are as good as what you have here, it should be a great map.

Looks like a good map, but I would change the name to avoid confusion.

If you don't know colossus was a halo 2 map, they used to even use it in MLG.
