So the 2008 Pro Circuit has ended and we have a few months before the first event in 2009.

This thread is for a discussion about what sort of things the Halo 3 community can do during the off season. So far we have had an OT of H3 Multi-Team Tournament (http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/images/buttons/report.gif) (which is still going on). The very FIRST MLG H3 Community Montage (http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205849) is in the making and VERY close to being finished.

Does anyone have any other ideas for things we might be able to do during the off season (aside, of course, from participating in the GameBattles Halo 3 Online Ladder (http://gamebattles.com/))? More "fun" tournaments? Squad Battle Customs? Other types of fun videos? Book club meetings?

I was thinking that getting 4 decent To4s (GB/MLG/...) together in a few 4v4v4v4 rounds would be an interesting offseason experiment :D

Something that would be definitely fun is setting up a 4vs4 OT of H3 Tournament, after the Multi-Tournament of course.

Reason for this is to have some people warm up for '09 Events and also learn/test out the new V6 settings as well.
Another way to make this interesting is if somehow we can make seed points, and keep them, but this time it wouldn't be by "Join Date" it would be by what place you get at the end of the Tournament depending on how many teams participate and also keep them to future OT of H3 Tournaments..

Just a thought.

Smells like poop to me. Unless NASA is hosting, then it might be pretty fun.

edit: having a mods vs. members all star game would be epic. stream it and everything. have a poll for the top 8 mods and top 8 members. sounds like win imo

I like this idea. Although, I know from experience that some of the mods are pretty wicked, so it'd be a fun matchup. I think voting should be the best system to determine who got to play.

As for my own idea, what about a Halo Decathalon? I know it's a bit unorthodox, but we set up on a map like Sandtrap(for its size). We have two teams with 4-6 people on each. Then we run through the gauntlet of things you see in normal games one after another. So, events would be something like:

Flag Running
Sniping Cones/Fusion Coils at varying distances and maybe some over a mancannon
Mongoose/Warthog driving around a track
Some sort of tricky jump
Some sort of BR contest
Grenade Banking
Etc.

Or we could have a hide and go seek tournament:

And I believe I saw someone post something in OTH3 about a BTB Rocket Race Tourney.

Anyway, I'll think of more stuff later.

EDIT: As an extension in thinking to Bosoxdanc's idea. Maybe some sort of "team with a pro 2v2 tourney", like they do with Golf. Assuming we could get some pro's to agree to it.

A panel of judges will judge in game H3 photos that people take. Just an idea.

This might sound crazy but what about a 6v6 or 8v8 Tourney, just to mix some stuff up. I think the results could turn out to be very interesting.

YES!!!!

Also as I'm reading this I'm noticing one common theme. That is Double Xp games (Griffball, Rocket Race, etc.) I think it would be cool if every week when double xp came out, tourneys featuring that weeks gametype were played.
I also like the decathalon idea.

Lots of members > Not so many mods.

*edit* I like Naptivias idea. H3 Gauntlet! We will just have to come up with some idea for the gauntlet. Naptiva PM is you wanna brain storm! :D

Playing off the Mods/Refs/Staff or whatever vs the community games, maybe they can "adopt a random" 2v2 tournament for H1 through XBC or something. I would love to learn more about the game because I was like..10 or 11 when I played it and I didn't understand the concept of competitive gaming back then. I'd love to learn more about the game and whatnot, and it'll help more members who recently joined understand the roots of MLG/Halo.

This is a very good idea. ive done alot of tournys like this for a PC game i play. We call them "Shuffle Tournaments", basicly everyone enters them selfs to play, normally people just post there name in a thread on the forums and a trusted forum member or mod random selects the teams and you play with that team.

I have also done a little Local "Shuffle Tournament" for H3 and it was atone of fun. Some one should think about setting some thing like this up.

I think you should have some 4v4 MLG tournaments for sure, maybe a griffball tournament eventually if enough people want one. I don't think the Mods vs Members game would work because there are way too many members and only a few would get to play which wouldn't really be fun.

I think it would be a good idea for a 4v4 MLG tournament. People post if they want to be in it, write all the names down and pick random TO4's. I think it would be fun, and you can meet some new people.

Another 2v2v2v2 one maybe or something but just say like 64 people enter, and the teams are picked by amount of months a member on the site 1 - 64. 1 and 64 team, 2 and 63, and so on until it is 32 and 33.

Haha my bad then. I misunderstood your post. About the whole 4v4 thing, I think we should have a sign up for a 4v4 randoms tourney. 64 people randomly picked into teams of 4s. Bracket it up and do work.

I'd love to see what we can do to figure out all the little spots, tricks, angles, etc. we can find that would set us apart from the casual gamer.

I mean we already know tons of angles that you never see anybody use in MM.

What if we compiled it all together and helped each other out?

Stuff like on The Pit... there's the street lights above Sword, there's the little structural hole you can see the Plat from if you're on Snipe Ramp, there's throwing a sticky through the crack in the Green Box and making it hit the attic and it lands in the Hill, there's walking around on the fences outside Sword, etc. etc. etc.

After playing...

A) without radar so we need to find ways to get info on our enemies
B) the other team communicates constantly so we need every way to deceive the other guy

... like that, I could go on about all the TINY things we do to get an extra bit of info or a safer getaway.

I'd love to see it all get put into one place.

And why not limit ourselves to just MLG maps? We could come up with some really, really naughty stuff for our regular MM work.
