View Full Version : Foundry Obsolete?

Im just curious if any serious forgers think that besides projects already in progress we will see any really really good foundry forged maps anymore? Lets face it sandboxs setup makes in better in foundry in every way including the colors of the objects. Maybe im wrong but most maps that before would be done on foundry are being done in the crypt.Hell I think the skybox is one of the best things in halo 3 period.
Sandbox is good, yes. Honestly I think the best part is the Crypt, sky bubble is overrated.
The fail of playing flag and oddball on it (sky bubble) right now really kills it for me, not to mention how much of a pain building up there is. Having to lay out a floor and make it look nice, on top of having to worry about exploding as I forge is pretty lame.
Sure, crypt's walls are not flat, but all that it takes is a little geo-merging to fix this issue.
Crypt is where it is at.
As far as the box replacing foundry...I think the box is really almost a fad. Yes there are nearly infinite things you can do with sandbox and yes it looks much prettier and the colored lights are amazing and so on so fourth, but foundry is really amazing too.
Geo-merging is much easier on foundry, and foundry honestly has more truly flat objects. A good forger can make amazing foundry maps that are honestly just as smooth and as creative as anything on sand box.
So in the end, I highly doubt everything will be sandbox, each of the maps have their own pros and cons and a combination of the both in MLG is defiantly best, and I expect that this is what we will see.
Give it a couple weeks, maybe months, we will see foundry maps again I bet, once this sandbox hype dies down.

I don't think it will be obsolete. But we will not see as much of it.

Foundry is not obsolete, there are still a few gems to be built. Like we learned from foundry and transitioned into sandbox, we can do the opposite and backtrack what we learn from sandbox and form it in foundry.
By the way on a side-note Zanno, I don't mean to disrespect you, but I think your statement about Foundry being obsolete is pretty ludicrous.

I still have 3 maps to finish up in Foundry, it's not obsolete for me.

I think the maps on Foundry like lockdown and onslaught will be rebulit in the crypt, and for Ldown's sake, in skybubble, but I think that the ground zero of sandbox is also very underrated also.

lol, already at work on one on the main level. I haven't actually started forging it yet. Just throwing pieces around.
The main level is awesome, yes, but the lack of boundaries makes it unlikely MLG will use any maps from this level, unless you completely enclose it, then you may as well use crypt.
That is my opinion.
For example there is an AMAZING Sanctuary remake on the main level, but the lack of boundaries KILL it.

Yes. Forge sucks. It's almost as obsolete as Craig's ability to beat me 1v1

I hope both see semi-equal use. TBH, no one has made really good stuff yet in Sandbox (all symmetric maps :-| ), and it will probably be a while before the good maps come out. I'm still working on a Foundry map, and I certainly don't think that it is obsolete.

I have been told that sandbox behaves much better in split screen than foundry does, which would make foundry totally obsolete for MLG's purposes on account of that we can use sandbox maps in the open bracket. I don't know if this is true or not because I still don't have sandbox yet.
Nobody has made a good map in sandbox yet because making a good map in forge takes like a month at minimum. I'd really hate to say it but nearly every single sandbox map I've seen so far is obviously garbage based on the screen shots. The forgers who actually have a clue like Fritz are going to take their time as they damn well should.
I'd really hate to single someone out but this is pretty much what's wrong with sandbox in a nutshell: http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240630

i think the hype over sandbox will wear off soon, but sandbox is a better forge map...
