I'm just wondering why after so much initial hype that no real headway was made. I know that there have been some nice ones made and even good mlg creations, but nothing that mlg would put into their lineup. What happened and why?
So I ask you, was sandbox a failure?

It isnt really Sandbox as much as it is the forgers. It just seems that most forgers (myself included) have just completely lost the urge to forge.
And also, there are a few MLG maps that MLG is considering for the circuit, they are just waiting until the offseason to test them more thoroughly.

good points, but don't you think that sandbox has been out long enough to create at least one good map? I mean they threw in foundry maps like they were treasured Indian gems. Has there even been consideration for 1 map made?

They threw in Foundry maps so quickly because they absolutely needed better gametypes. Before Foundry, Guardian KoTH was in the lineup.

but it seems like the possibilities are endless with sandbox. Far more creativity and originality are allowed and I guess I thought when it was released that at least one map would be in.
but heretic is freekin sweet

There are currently atleast 2 Sandbox maps being considered. And the main reason that none were added has to do with the fact that they were waiting for ODST to test Sandbox maps because they didnt want to download the new map pack onto all of the xboxs when they could just use the ODST disk. By the time ODST came out, it was too late to add a brand new map onto the circuit (Heretic is an exception since it is a remake).

they know about the new maps that came out with h3ff map pack. i know that hexogen is getting some sort of notice, but it's not like they can add a new map mid season, especially since most of the maps are already competitive (at least to some degree). when the season's over, they will already have tested the maps and announce the new maps so the pros can practice on them before the 2010 season.
