Cancel MW2 Matchmaking?

I'm a little confused as to why infinity ward just doesn't shut down online matchmaking with all of the leaked and hacked copies. Also why is MW2 matchmaking already up in the first place? Can someone shed a little light on the subject as to why people are still allowed to play this game early online. I dont care that people are playing it already it just seems weird that IW isn't trying to stop it as if they want people to play it early.

Because no publicity is bad publicity. Hearing about people already playing the game makes the rest of us want the game more.

Exactly. Showing us the game now reassures us that this game actually seems like it didn't go the way of Halo 3, so more people are going to be inclined to buy it sooner.

its up because technically its still in the beta untill the 9th. So they are just going to reset everything then and it wont make a difference

Here are the reasons as I see them:

-IW and pro players are still playing in droves - I have matched up against a bunch of pros and IW employees in just the last day
-No publicity is bad publicity
-We dont know what has to go on to turn off a MW2 server, maybe its not the easiest thing to get everything back and running
-They dont care, if you have a hacked copy, you have one....

edit: i doubt there is a beta until the day before as i am sure the game has RTM'd months ago

Pretty much what most people have said is true. Plus, I'm sure it's not as simple as just shutting down online multiplayer then firing it back up on release date. But then again I'm not positive.

There not going to shut down the online servers/online multiplayer! That would mean that they couldn't play it anymore. And since thats all they do anywaz since the game is done and stores already have copy's, there is no more game designing to do. IT'S DONE!!!

They dont want to cutt off there fun...

I'm not sure that's quite their logic but it may have something to do with it. I'm thinking it is a lot of work to turn off the online multiplayer and then turn it back on and get it running smoothly on release date.
