He never held it for a long enough time to give him even a second of time before he dropped it for a good 2-3 seconds. So, the whole time he juggled the ball, the game took that as if the ball was motionless and so, once he dropped the ball for even a small amount of time, the game played it... idk, that's all I could think of.

To Graveith: Or that. But, I wanted to make things more complicated. =D

If it registered as being motionless then It wouldn't have played It would have said "Ball Reset."
It probably got glitched with the map somehow and played. It happend to me a couple of times on Lockdown.

This is true, and a good point. I didn't catch this moment during the tournament, so did anyone say anything in-game? I wonder if this is a glitch that can happen on any map, or if it is a random occurrence on certain maps. Also, I wonder if this could be repaired by Bungie with a patch.

blankeyy_blanket On the path to Bansville
the play ball on Heretic has happened to me a few times, but I was not the one who did it so I am not sure how it happened. A patch might be able to fix this I'm thinking...or maybe if there is a way you can do this and its not random, do you think it will be illegal?

i don't think bungie knows what a patch is. with all of the people asking for a patch to halo 3 they would have done it already. everybody knows that bungie is too lazy to make a patch.

I wouldn't call Bungie lazy. They did bring out TU2 (which essentially was a large patch), 4 map-packs (12 new maps), a completey new campaign and multiplayer feature (ODST) and they do patch the important (to them) aspects of the game, such as 'hiding spots'.

Also, they majority of things people request to be 'patched' are simply non-patchable (such as a new BR, the beatdown system, hit-boxes) and only a small percenatage of the community would actually want it to be patched (plus they aren't major glitches that deteriate the game considerably (for most people).

Also, Halo 3 is now almost 3 years old, and Reach is in its final stages. So there is zero point in Bungie patching anything as inconsecquential as a occasional ball glitch.

Annnnnnyway. I believe I am going off-topic, so, I believe that the 'glitch' that fear experienced was due to the ball falling through the map. Otherwise, as previously stated, it would of said 'ball reset' not 'play ball'.
