Shadowrun Developers, FASA, Shut Down

Mitch BLANK confirmed the official shutdown of FASA studios in a forum post on the Shadowrun homepage. The studio will leave a community manager and tech support guy on staff as long as people still enjoy the game. Unfortunately, no more updates or tweaks will come to this wonderful game. Many FASA staffers are moving on to other positions within Microsoft Game Studios.

That's terrible news.

I'd heard though on Joystiq that the developers on staff at Microsoft were going to keep the game updated.

Definitely a shame. The last remnant of the company that created the Battletech and Shadowrun tabletop games has dissapeared. Battletech and Shadowrun (the tabletop games) are now being made by totally different companies. Most of the old school tabletop companies have dissapeared: FASA, TSR (the DnD people), Avalon Hill. Even though the original FASA had basically ceased to exist, FASA Interactive at least was a reminder of the old school era.

This sucks. But I guess that taking 3 years to make a multiplayer only game isnt the best business decision. They will be remembered.

That's bad news. Hopefully someone will gather the guts to make a console shooter that's pure multiplayer.

They were swindlers and thieves of pennies and dimes, and they had been trapped and put out of the way by the swindlers and thieves of millions of dollars.
