Starting Strong: Final Boss Opening Strategy for The Pit CTF

Quote:
Ready to step your game up to the next level? Starting Strong is your first step to incorporating professional strategies and tactics into your game. In this series MLG will break down the strats used by Pro Teams on the Pro Circuit. Articles will be presented in two parts: a diagram section describing each player's role and video examples of the strategy in action. This week we take a look at the dominant starting strategy Final Boss employs when playing Capture the Flag on the Pit. $(document).ready(function() { //hide the all of the element with class msg_body $(".msg_body").hide(); //toggle the componenet with class msg_body $(".msg_head").click(function() { $(this).next(".msg_body").slideToggle(600); }); }); p { padding: 0 0 1em; } .msg_list { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; width: 600px; } .msg_head { padding: 5px 10px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; background-color:#f4f4f9; margin:1px; } .msg_body { padding: 5px 10px 15px; background-color:#F4F4F8; } Playbook Diagrams (click to enlarge/hide) Walshy - 29:56 (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 2 - 29:56 (click to enlarge/hide) Strongside - 29:55 (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 1 - 29:53 (click to enlarge/hide) Walshy - 29:52 (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 2 - 29:45 (click to enlarge/hide) Walshy - 29:40 (click to enlarge/hide) Strongside - 29:40 (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 1 - 29:40 (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 2 - 29:35 (click to enlarge/hide) Walshy - 29:30 (click to enlarge/hide) Video Examples (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 2 Video (click to enlarge/hide) Ogre 1 Video (click to enlarge/hide) Walshy Video (click to enlarge/hide) Strongside Video (click to enlarge/hide)

nice pics and vids. Good way to start, though I'm not a fan of sniping from the team's sword ramp. Rather go to their top snipe

It may be easier to snipe from there but its really not a good idea to have the other team spawning near mauler. Good for your kills but bad for the team

I'm sure FB is real happy that everyone knows their opening strat. Now many are gonna start using this and they'll have to change things up

I don't think you know how Halo 3 spawning works. There aren't really any proximity influencers. Just because you hold their top snipe doesn't mean they will spawn mauler. The only spawn influencers are where and how many times somebody is killed. I'm not gonna go into details because this isn't the place but trust me, you can have the whole freakin team spawn snipe courtyard even if you're on top of their snipe tower or even standing in their snipe courtyard

Actually, where you are does influence where the enemy spawns, it's just that where they've died recently is more important. Bungie said the importance of where you are is 4/5's as important as where an enemy has just died.

And I'm sure FB won't mind people seeing how they start out. I suspect every team looking to place top 8 will have gone through lots of VoD to see how each team plays, and that's going to be very important for a game that's only one event old. Scrimming will, of course, allow different set ups to be shown too. The perfect example was that Classic already obviously knew what FB did, and so FB mixed it up a little in the finals.

I doubt we're going to see teams employ the same start over and over. It's more likely that we'll have variations, and that a lot of mind games will be involved to start out a match, with teams gambling on what the other team will do. You saw that with Classic all rushing OS in one of their games with FB on the Pit, which admittedly didn't work out, but was an interesting idea. You'll still have someone go for the sniper every game, and you'll still have central battles over power weapons, but it won't play out exactly the same every time, and people will mix things up, just as they do after any spawn.

What... 9/10 if you hold the shotgun on the pit they will not spawn first br or shotgun, but they will spawn either courtyard or flag. Unlike other Halo games this has the worst spawn system ever but you can still influence spawns by where you are positioned, and yes like he said having a guy top snipe does seem to take weight off the opposing team spawning courtyard.
