One more round.

If anyone here has not yet, I highly recommend reading this post by MLG processional Rain on gamebattles.

All right guys here it is, it's crunch time.

Everyone has heard the rumors of Gears of War's removal from the circuit, and to be honest, things look bleak.

These forums are near dead, with posts coming scarcely every couple of days, MLG see's this and says GoW is dead, they see the lower than Halo turn out at events and say this game is not making us money.

But what MLG is not seeing is the 300+ people, who gave it their all and screamed their throats out, chanting one more year, what MLG doesn't see is EPIC's recent attempt to fix this game, and help out MLG. What MLG is not seeing is the Community hosted event on the EPIC forums which attracted over 500 players who wanted to play with MLG pros using our very own MLG variant.

First of all, I want to talk about the game. Gears of war, started out as a joke at Meadowlands, this is true. But you would have to be absolutely blind to ignore the competitive action and intensity that happened through out this season, the absolute awesome that this game developed into. The strategies, the players, the plays, the rushes, the overall mentality of this game was just so exhilarating to watch. Sure their were times when the gameplay slowed down so much we screamed for moar laser, but after the first event we were treated with the listen-in that turned even these moments into something interesting to watch. Who besides me will never forget the 4v1 clutches, the unconventional pushes that changed rounds, the crazy shotgun duels, etc. The Meta-Game was absolutely insane, the first few events played slowly, with players favoring campy set ups with minimal risk, but as the game went on that developed into quick pushes that could make or break rounds, where intense shot gun duels could really turn the game around.

Next on the chopping block is the community. All right, we can all admit that there is no community on these forums, but that doesn't mean we don't exist. There are many places out there where the GoW community like to come together in huge numbers to support our competitive ventures:

http://phoenixgaming.org/gowforum/index.php??
GoW Nation was created specifically by Jon Lucenford for the betterment of the GoW community, and has since developed into something far greater which spans nearly all of E-sports in it's whole. But the only reason this community could grow to what it is now is because of it's original founding members who all came from here. To be fair about it, as great as GoW Nation is, it can be said that it possibly hindered this community by splitting us even further apart, but nevertheless it has become a great hub for all competitive gamers everywhere.

http://gamebattles.com/forums/f/Gears-of-War-2-1607
To be fair about it GB has done more harm than good when it comes down to how it has negatively affected the way our community is viewed. But one thing that can be said about GB is that they are loud about their opinion, passionate about this game and where we lack in members, they make up for it tenfold.

http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5
How could one list any GoW related websites without bringing up the EPIC forums? Sure they have never really been the exact best competitive community, but they do have HUGE numbers, and they are certainly starting to come around. Recently the EPIC forums even played host to a huge Community night which attracted 500+ players looking to enjoy MLG customs and a chance to play with the MLG pros, which is far better than I can say I accomplished with my CGN.

The last thing I need to bring up when talking about MLG and gears of war, is MLG itself and their treatment of. I for one believe wholeheartedly that MLG lost sight of it's goal a long time ago. MLG's mission statement is to enhance competitive E-Sports and make them as popular as standard sports. In my honest opinion MLG stopped trying to enhance E-Sports so much as to enhance themselves as a business instead.

Obviously this is important for MLG to succeed in an ever growing field of competitive gaming, but I believe it has gotten to the point where MLG is afraid to take any risks, and instead rely on their flagship title Halo to rake in the cash. Gears of War is not the first game to be shafted by the cruel business aspect of MLG, RSV2 and Shadowrun were both two amazing titles who fell to the wayside because MLG was afraid to make any publicity attempts with them.

We are so used to coming to MLGpro.com and what do we see in the news bars? Halo this , halo that. I am sorry but I find it hard to take a leagu that claims to support Competitive Gaming, but only supports popular games, seriously.

Do you know that the GoW featured stage has been in use for the past three+ years? That we have had the same TV's for the past several years? There is only one bench in front of the GoW stage, ONE bench, when there were 300+ people screaming there heads off showing their support, needing to scramble for chairs. Our first place prize through out the season has been 8000 dollars, when Halo 3's third place has been that same number.

MLG just needs to show some love for some other games on their circuit and the love will be returned, I promise.

So sorry for the long lines of text, but what I'm basically trying to say is GoW still has a place in our hearts and many others, and should still have a place on the MLG circuit.

So if you agree with me, or any part of what I have written please reply as follows:

My name is CR0553D, and I support Gears of War 2 for one more year.

EDIT: This is something I wrote in Ari-Zona's plagiarized thread that I felt summed up how I felt about Gears from a more personnel view:

Anyways to the people who say that Gears isn't fast enough or competitive to watch, they obviously didn't watch Orlando, or any event besides that for that matter. This game was just so intense all season long and I LOVED it. It seems to me that the people who want GoW removed are those who who don't care about Gears, which is cool, but by that logic since I don't care about WoW should it be removed?

I am certainly in no way biased in this discussion. Halo is what attracted me to MLG, Halo is one of my favorite games in the world. I was shocked when we we lost the Final Boss dynasty, I saw Washy call the Ogre twins the Olson twins live, I followed Triggers Down and STR8 Rippen in their rise to fame, I was helping testing Lockdown before half of this community had heard of it, I saw it live when Hysteria's Xbox froze, and I saw Believe the Hype pull of one of the biggest upsets in MLG history. I know MLG and I know Halo 3, the two have become synonymous for me. But so has Gears of War, I remember watching the very first event, and begging for something to change, I remember rallying to save the HammerBurst, only to realize I was wrong, I remember the Pro-Am showcase where Nexy only got 4 kills, I remember being interviewed by Silentrare for the Community Member Spotlight, I remember organizing the Gears of War Community game night, I remember Cheering AmazYn on from my home as they won Dallas, and I know I will never forget the crowd that showed their love for Gears if War at Orlando.

My most strongest memory of Gears has to have been when I lost a friend several months ago, and I owe that community so much for being there and understanding.

To the people who say Gears of War isn't popular enough, and isn't gaining MLG any money, your ignoring the old proverb: "To make money you must spend money". Gears if War, or any other game for that matter, has not been monopolized by MLG in the same way as Halo, and that is actually costing MLG money. How often do you see GoW player interviews on the front page? How often have you seen GoW get the spotlight of MLG? Do you know what the prize money is for this game on comparison to Halo? Do you know that we don't even have a page for any of our teams?

And besides that Gears is by no means unpopular, please refer to the original post/thread and you will see the ridiculous amount of support and fans that MLG has not attempted to tap into.

I personally believe that if MLG truly wants to branch out into more games besides Halo, and establish themselves as the pinnacle of E-Sports, then it is necessary to take a risk and actually support the competitive and not the most popular games. MLG has never really taken any huge risks when it comes to the other games on their circuit, but it is important to understand that the love that the games receive from your community, can only come from the love the games receive from you.

EDIT #2: Everyone who supports this thread should also rock this in their Signature:
