Map control revolves around the ball. A team should have the versatility to hold the ball in several positions on the map. Oddball games get messy and the best teams will keep the time going up even if they never maintain a truly dominant setup. The more places a team feels comfortable holding the ball, even if its only for 15 seconds, the better chance they have of winning.
Remember the mantra: don’t forget about power items. And also remember that basic Team Slayer strategies can mold pretty well to an Oddball game, especially because the ball carrier can always drop and fight when the enemy presses. Try to use the ball holder as an element within the strategy. If the setups are strong enough, he should have time to put some fire on the enemy which will help out the three defenders enough to keep the enemy at bay.
Map strategies in Oddball must be more fluid than in any other map because the ball carrier dictates the pace and location of the action. Try to work out certain things that seem to work and strengthen them. If a running ball carrier seems to earn the most time, try to develop a fluid strategy that allows for movement. Maybe the strategy will involve timely deaths that won’t give up control. Find out what works for your team and capitalize on your strengths. The more you practice, the easier it will become.
