Get Better Fast » Halo 3 Lesson Finder » Teamwork » Coordinating Efforts

Communication is the most underrated element of a successful Halo player. In almost every tutorial, we will stress how it plays an integral part in winning. Communication never stops in Halo. Because enemies always come back to life and the game continues until one team wins, there’s always something to be communicated. Here are some of the major things you should always think about and relay to teammates:

Enemy Locations-- In Halo, everything comes down to eliminating the enemy. Top-level professionals scream, whisper, and shout out enemy locations constantly. If you know your enemy's location, you stand a much better chance of being able to kill him or her. If you find it hard to talk and play at the same time, first work on just calling out where you see enemies as much as you can for the entire duration of a game.

Carbon, the top squad in 2006, would not have made it to the top of the ranks without constant communication.
Timing Power Ups-- Know how often power-ups respawn on every map. A team should never lose track of when the next power-up will come back. Communicating not only the time of the next respawn, but also reminding teammates that they need to be in a position prior to the respawn.

Calling Out the Objective-- This phrase can mean many different things. In CTF, it means letting your teammates know where the enemy has gone with the flag; same thing goes for bomb games. In King of the Hill and Oddball, let your teammates know where the enemy is hiding in the hill or who is around the ball. Indicate the best way to retake the objective once it has been lost. In objective games, you must communicate specific information concerning the objective in order to win the game.

Spawns-- If you see a few enemies respawning in a specific area, alert the rest of your team as soon as possible. Trapping the opposing team off their spawn lets you maintain map control, which can result in big wins. A freshly spawned player will often be disoriented, similar to a deer caught in the headlights, allowing you to take advantage and add to your score.

Whatever you do, talk! One element universally underrated and almost always lacking in up-and-coming players is the ability to effectively communicate. Game after game, under any circumstances, being able to Maintain a level head and talk game after game are two signs of a mature Halo player.
