Reign fire and nades upon the opponent! Some hills are easier to attack than others, so depending on location, your teammates and the enemy strategy for assaulting the hill will change. Here are some things to keep in mind:
* Analyze an opponent’s setup. If taking the guy out in the hill eliminates the opposing team from getting time, despite their strong setup, then focus on killing the hill guy. Conversely, if the opponent’s setup does not contain a weak link, do not charge the hill trying to just take out the hill guy, it will result in huge time gains for the opposition.
* Who’s shooting with you? Sometimes you have to sit back and wait for your team. Three guys all putting fire on the enemy in the hill will make short work of him, but firing may be futile alone and will only serve to give away your location.
* Sometimes you have to gain position. If you’re the last one left and assaulting the hill directly will only result in death, then go pick up that newly spawned sniper and try to open up the map for your teammates. The problem with neglecting the hill is that many inexperienced players do so for too long and dig too deep a hole out of which to climb. The hill always comes first!
* Is the hill moving? This is a biggie. In almost every game, even with advanced players, someone will mistakenly assault a hill right before it’s about to move. While this can be a good idea if you know you’ll get a few easy kills out of it, make sure it’s worth it. Sometimes setting up for the next hill can swing the game in your team’s favor.
As time goes by, you’ll really develop a sense for when you should attack the hill. As games play out and hill setups become more common, a player begins to recognize patterns in the way the enemy situates themselves. The more you become conscious of this and practice, the faster you’ll become a king of the hill yourself.
