Receiving a sponsorship is something every aspiring pro gamer should strive for. Having a sponsor can reap an array of financial benefits including, but not limited to, help with travel expenses, entrance fees, and other various expenses involved with participating in the Pro Circuit. Sponsorships have helped many of the Pro Circuit’s veteran teams get their start and they’re much more attainable than you may think.
Sponsors typically come in two forms: local sponsors and national sponsors. When attempting to obtain a sponsor for the first time, it’s advisable to start with a local sponsor. Local sponsors can aid in getting off the ground, meanwhile national sponsors are obtained after a high level of success has been achieved.
When you’re ready to start looking for a sponsor, a little effort can go a long way. Be professional, respectful, and courteous when contacting organizations, and most importantly, be clear about your message. Explain why you’re contacting them, and what you have to offer to their organization.
Boasting prior accomplishments can also be helpful. These can be as simple as having a high GB Rank, or as large as an impressive finish in an MLG Online Tournament or Pro Circuit Ladder. These and other traits are all a part of your marketability. Teams with a high level of marketability hold a much better chance at obtaining a sponsorship than those who do not.
