Active camouflage is a powerup in the Halo series that will cause players to be mostly invisible for a short period of time. If the player fires or takes damage, the camoflauge will temporarily fade. The effectiveness of active camouflage can be adjusted in the custom game settings.

Recent videos of Halo 3 gameplay suggest that active camouflage has improved significantly from Halo 2 and is more like that of the original Halo, at least at the best setting.

Active Camouflage has different properties in each of the Halo games.

[edit] Halo: CE Active Camouflage

A power-up that effectively lends invisibility to a player. The active camouflage is a glowing blue orb housed inside a triangular casing. Once a player picks up the active camouflage, he or she can move about virtually unseen for 42-43 seconds. A player's camouflage is temporarily suspended if he or she fires a weapon or is hit by an opponent. The Active Camouflage is much more effective in Halo: CE than Halo 2. Though each map in Halo: CE featured the Active Camouflage, multiplayer levels with the power-up used on the MLG Pro Circuit at some point include Chill Out, Prisoner, Hang 'Em High, Battle Creek, Damnation, Rat Race, Derelict, Blood Gulch, Wizard, and Longest.

[edit] Halo 2 Active Camouflage

A power which makes a player much harder to see. The edges of a player however are still easily identifiable, and therefore when in motion is easily spotted. The player is still visible on motion tracker. The most useful gain from the Active Camouflage is its removal of autoaim. When invisible, a player is not susceptible to the autoaim which is usually induced by aiming nearby. This gives the carrier a "First Shot" advantage in typical correct play.
